I love a good smoothie, but really really hate cleaning up after them. I don’t have time in the mornings to get everything out and then clean it all up. I was on the hunt for an alternative. Most ideas just put all of the ingredients into portioned baggies and then freeze each bag. This still involved using the blender each time. No Thanks! I read a few ideas on making the smoothies ahead and then freezing them individually. I got a few ideas, but went with my preferences and what I had on hand. I wanted to call these “Pina Colada” smoothies, but Daniel said they don’t taste like the beach. He did say they are “light” and “airy,” but are lacking bacardi…
This is my recipe for this set…I really just used what I had, so nothing is super specific.
- 3 cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- 2 ripe bananas
- 1 bag baby spinach
- 2 scoops vanilla whey protein
- about 1/4 cup vanilla Greek yogurt
- 1 cup frozen unsweetened mango
- 1 cup frozen unsweetened pineapple
- 1 cup frozen unsweetened sliced peaches
Blend first 4 ingredients until pretty smooth…about a minute or two.
Add remaining ingredients and blend until smooth.
Pour into 5 freezer safe Ball jars. Pay attention, there is a freezer line on the jars.
Do not seal the lids tightly at first. I put the lids on lightly overnight then tightened them in the morning. I read this gives them space to expand.
I took one one to work with me the next day. I put it in my lunch box, but around 10:00 it still seemed super frozen. I let it thaw on my desk until lunch and it was perfect! These straws are my favorite for smoothies!
I used the Ninja blender. We got this for our wedding and love it. To clean the blender, you just rinse the residue out then put hot water in with a drop of dish soap. Turn it on high for a few minutes, rinse, and dry!
